Anger Management – Overcoming Personality Disorders

Every personality type is prone to a set of emotions, reflecting the state of mind of a person. One of these personality types is grandiosity. People with this personality type are prone to anger outbursts whenever things are not done according to their wishes, and they think that they are above everyone else. All grandiose people lack concern for the rights of others and usually dismiss other people’s ideas as pointless. Such people should definitely consider some form of anger management.

Mental disorders are one of the major traits of people with grandiosity personality. People with such traits cannot handle a stressful situation and become agitated and angry when these situations occur. They can act out on emotions, when feeling threatened and can also assault a person verbally and in extreme cases physically. So, people suffering from a grandiose personality type should definitely seek medical help and should undergo anger management counseling.

One of the main mental illnesses that grandiose personalities suffer from is known as narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) type. Other such personality disorders are paranoia, schizophrenia paranoia, hysteria, etc. Anger management alone cannot cure these mental disorders, but extensive anger management counseling coupled with anger management therapy can help to manage their illness when used in conjunction with other treatments.

Remorse is the moral anguish arising from shame for past misdeeds. Generally, if someone experiences an outburst of anger, the person will have a feeling of remorse after that period of conflict or interruption. Contrary to this, a person with a personality disorder would have no feeling of remorse. A person has to develop a sense of remorse for anger management therapy to be effective.

In an anger management class or session, the psychotherapist may find a method of dealing with anger for some patients, but there are some cases, in which no solution can be found using simple anger management techniques. People who cannot control their anger will verbally abuse others and ,as stated earlier, in extreme cases physically abuse others. There are some cases when a person has actually killed someone in a fit of anger but fortunately this is extremely rare.

Anger management is not a cure for anger; it is a technique for people to be able to deal with it in a non-destructive way. There are many forms of anger, which people deal with accordingly, and use their own form of anger management skill. Jealousy can often be the root cause of anger. One good anger management tip is to address the problem and then find the best solution to it.

Problems occur in marital life, for example ,if the spouse is thought to be having an affair with someone. It would be easy for the injured party to become angry, as that is a natural reaction. However, the first priority must be to get all the details about any particular situation and then deal with it accordingly. This,of course ,is bound to be a difficult anger management test for anyone. Above all the single most important factor is to remain calm.

Anger management techniques could help the person to remain calm enough to make the right decision rather than allowing a knee-jerk reaction.

Failure is success turned over and if failure can be reviewed in a positive light, the problems will seem less later in life. A person with a grandiosity personality needs help, since the mountains for these unfortunate people are more difficult for them to climb.

We must not fail in our attempts at anger management, and should control our anger, before the anger controls us.
